Jeff received this note and school news article today from Shenelle Williams, Music Director at Castilleja High School in Palo Alto, CA:
“I just wanted to say thank you again for coming to Castilleja. The girls really enjoyed your performance and were still speaking about it the next day.”
Middlebury College Choir performs for freshman
Last week the 9th grade Core Arts Class enjoyed a special performance by the Middlebury College Choir. Visiting from Vermont on a West Coast tour, the group shared a few of their favorite pieces with the girls. Some songs were in English; others were in languages such as Georgian. Aside from performing in the “usual” formation at the front of the Choral Room, the singers also surrounded the students to give the girls an opportunity to hear the music harmonized from multiple directions. Girls also had a chance to ask the performers questions and mingle afterwards. Their inquiries ranged from “how often do you rehearse?” to “what is your major?” They were surprised to learn that, of the 30+ students in the group, majors varied from neuroscience to environmental journalism, and most were not music majors. This helped the students in the Core Arts class recognize that they can still pursue their artistic passions in college even if they don’t major in them.
